RIVERSIDE CHURCH

The Riverside Church, also known as the Protestant Cathedral, is a Gothic building inspired by the architecture of Chartres in France. The church houses canvases by Heinrich Hofman, the most famous of which is Christ in Gethsemane . Sir Jacob Epstein's Madonna and Child and his 20 foot Christ in Majesty are also housed there. The Riverside Church tower, which rises 392 feet above one of the highest points in Manhattan, contains one of the world's largest carillons and has one of the city's most magnificent views. The church is open daily to the public from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. On Sundays, the worship service begins at 10:45 am and the Carillon and tower observation decks open at 12:30 pm.  For information about group tours   contact the Visitor's Center - 212-870-6792.
