JTS Lecture, December 6:
40 Years After Nostra Aetate: Jewish-Christian Relations Today

New York, NY, November 28, 2005 - Forty years have passed since Nostra Aetate, the Catholic Church's ground-breaking declaration calling for increased positive relations with non-Christian religions.

Dr. Mary C. Boys will recount the dramatic history of the "Declaration" in her lecture "40 Years of Christian-Jewish Dialogue: Retrospect and Prospect" at The Jewish Theological Seminary's Jack and Lewis Rudin Lecture. The event will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at JTS, 3080 Broadway (at 122nd Street) in New York City, exactly forty years and one day after the conclusion of the Second Vatican Council that issued the declaration in 1965.

Dr. Boys will also report on the declaration's reception by other Christian denominations and by Jews, look at major issues of today, and discuss prospects for the future of such dialogue.

The annual fall and spring Jack and Lewis Rudin Lectures provide an opportunity for distinguished academic, religious and business leaders and other public figures to discuss topics of interest to the JTS community and the public-at-large.

Dr. Boys is the Skinner and McAlpin Professor of Practical Theology at Union Theological Seminary in New York. She has also been an adjunct faculty member at JTS, and at Teacher's College, Columbia University, and serves on the boards of several organizations devoted to inter-religious understanding. Dr. Boys is the author of four books including Jewish-Christian Dialogue: One Woman's Experience and Has G-d Only One Blessing? Judaism as a Source of Christian Self-Understanding.
