Cantabile Limburg
Jurgen Fassbender, conductor
Cantabile Limburg is a 24-voice men’s chamber choir from Limburg, Germany. This excellent choir has traveled and performed extensively throughout the world. Their repertoire – primarily Germanic composers – includes works of Max Reger, Richard Strauss, Franz Schubert, Kaj Erik Gustafsson and Pablo Casals. This Riverside Church performance is their only New York City concert appearance. They will be joined by the 70-voice Rutgers University Glee Club, Patrick Gardner, conductor.

FEMINIST CLASSICS CONFERENCE
FEAR OF FLYING
Featuring a conversation with Erica Jong ’63
An award-winning writer who has been integral to the genre of contemporary feminine literature, Erica Jong ’63 is the author of eight novels, including the bestsellers Fear of Flying, Fear of Fifty: A Midlife Memoir, The Devil at Large, and Seducing the Demon: Writing for My Life. Recently, Jong donated a collection of archival material to Columbia University’s Rare Book and Manuscript Library, including journals, diaries, and noteworthy correspondence with John Updike, Henry Miller, and Louis Untermeyer. Together with the Columbia Institute for Research on Women and Gender, BCRW celebrates this extraordinary gift with a conference dedicated to Jong’s inimitable career and its impact on American letters. Participants include Shelley Fisher Fishkin, Nancy K. Miller, Rebecca Traister, Aoibheann Sweeney, Susan Suleiman, Min Jin Lee, and James Frey.

Speaker: Jeffrey Shandler, Associate Professor, Department of Jewish Studies, Rutgers University
The Jack and Lewis Rudin Lecture
Listen in as Jeffrey Shandler turns on the radio and shares fascinating audio excerpts aired during WWII and its aftermath. Shandler will tell the story of how the American Jewish Committee and The Jewish Theological Seminary, by producing radio programs that promoted democratic values, played a pioneering role in American public service broadcasting.

Elizabeth Benedict ('76) is the author of five acclaimed novels, including Slow Dancing and the bestseller Almost, as well as The Joy of Writing Sex: A Guide for Fiction Writers, which is widely used in writing programs. She studied writing at Barnard with Elizabeth Hardwick, and writes nonfiction for many publications, including The New York Times, Daedalus, and The Huffington Post.
